The Malwani police, on Wednesday, arrested a 21-year-old man for allegedly raping an 18-year-old girl.
The victim filed a complaint with the police, in which she alleged that around 9.30pm on Monday, when she was on her way to her cousin’s house, the accused, Wasim Shaikh, a tempo driver, pulled her inside his house.When she shouted for help, Shaikh’s father, Ishaq, 45, told passers-by to go away saying it was an internal matter. “The victim said Ishaq locked the house from outside and left. Shaikh, a history-sheeter, then raped and beat her up,” said Nilesh Kamble, sub inspector, Malwani police station.
The victim said she only came out when Ishaq unlocked the door at 9 pm on Tuesday. The Malwani police have registered a case of rape, causing hurt and wrongful confinement against Shaikh and Ishaq. Abdul Rauf Shaikh, senior inspector, Malwani police, said, “We have arrested the accused based on the victim’s complaint. We have sent the victim and the accused for medical tests.”
The police also said the victim and accused knew each other Shaikh and Ishaq were produced before a local court that remanded them in police custody till March 5.
The Malwani police on Tuesday arrested a 21-year-old man for raping an 18-year-old girl in Malwani the previous day. The father of the accused too has been arrested for aiding him.
The accused has been identified as Wasim Shaikh, and his father as Ishak Shaikh, 45.The incident took place on Monday, when the victim was walking from her house, which is in plot number 6 of New Collector’s Compound, to her aunt’s house in plot number 21.
The father-son duo, on spotting her, went to her and started dragging her towards their house in plot number 17. When people gathered after she began screaming for help, the duo told them that the girl is Wasim’s fiancee and that it is a family issue. After the crowd dispersed, the two dragged her into their house.
Then, Ishak stepped outside and locked the door while Wasim Shaikh raped the girl. She was locked inside the house for 24 hours.
A case was registered with the Malwani police on February 26 and the duo was arrested on the same day.
Inspector Nilesh Thambe, investigating officer of Malwani police station, said, “Both the accused used to be the girl’s neighbours earlier. Ishak said that Wasim and the girl are in a relationship, but the girl has denied it. Medical tests have confirmed rape and both father and son have been remanded in police custody for five days.”
According to Malwani police, Wasim is a known chain snatcher in the area.
